The Hike

The Hike

By Landon Beach

A distant voice came through the phone line. One Brad Cranston never thought he would hear again. Bring a boat. Head South. Do not involve the police. Oh yeah. Did I mention he said, “there is a lot of money involved.”

For a moment he sat there in shock unable to believe his ears. Was this really his little brother calling? His brother Conrad who vanished 6 years ago without a trace? Now he was listening to a voicemail. Conrad reaching out and in serious trouble.

Hello everyone, that is how the book The Hike by Landon Beach starts off. From the very first page the reader is hooked.

Conrad Cranston disappeared 6 years ago. He and his older brother were supposed to take a long hiking trip together. But he never showed up. The case went cold and Brad had no choice but to wonder. That is until he got that call.

Allison Shannon is a new private Investigator. It’s her first day on the job. One she has to take for survival. We find out quickly that she too has a compelling story. She is running from her own past.

Through a series of circumstances, Brad and Allison meet and together they will have to track down Conrad before it’s too late. Only they don’t know the kinds of dangerous people they are dealing with. The Detroit mob is involved. That only adds to the intrigue and mystery of the plot.

I couldn’t stop listening to the audio version of this book. Scott Brick brings to life every character with clarity and intensity. He has to as this book is fast moving and exciting. As a reader, I wanted to know what would happen next.

One sign of a great thriller is when the author keeps you engaged and wanting to know more. The other day someone said a book was unputdownable. That’s a great way to describe The Hike as well.
